Supplying the world with beef, the Kansas City Stockyards was second only to Chicago, thriving from¬†its¬†opening in 1871 till it was devastated by the flood of ’51 which wiped out much of the West Bottoms. It never regained¬†its glory and finally closed down in the 1991 after 120 years.
