Christmas on the Kaw
18×24 oil

Inspired by Prashant Vemireddy’s photographs of the area, I found this great vantage point of the confluence of the Kaw and Missouri Rivers, with the city skyline in the background. Starting midmorning on Christmas Eve, I began this when there was a significant ice flow down the Missouri River. As the winter progressed, the ice moved on and in came the wonderful snowfalls of 2011. I found that painting in the sun when it was above 20 degrees, and no wind was comfortable.
