My next piece in my “Pleins to Peru” series highlights the real heroes of the Inca Trail.
The Porters!
We kept a lookout for them and gave way to them shouting “porters” as they passed on the outside of the trail.
We had to carry our own personal gear with us that we needed for the trip, like painting supplies, water, etc, but our bedding, and tents, food, all this was brought by these amazing men to our campsites.
Thankfully the Peruvian government has put a limit to what they are allowed to carry, but it is still more than 3-4 times the weight of our packs.
We were outfitted by “G Adventures” who did a bang up job. All were in good spirits, helpful, and kind. I do not know how they could do this.
We did tip them handsomely, but really there is no amount that could cover their importance along the route.
